Located just a few kilometers from Montevideo, the Pizzorno winery ranks among the family estates that define Uruguay's wine landscape. Here you'll discover renowned local production and explore the country's signature grape varieties, all within easy reach of the capital. A visit to Pizzorno seamlessly weaves together wine tasting, an encounter with craftsmanship passed down through generations, and immersion in the culture of Canelones.

A Century-Old Family Legacy

The Pizzorno winery's story begins in 1910, when Don Próspero José Pizzorno, an Italian immigrant, settled in Uruguay to plant his first vines. More than a century later, the fourth generation, led by Carlos Pizzorno and his family, continues this narrative by blending tradition with innovation. Each vintage reflects a deep respect for nature, an attachment to the land, and a passion for winemaking passed down through generations.

Where is Pizzorno Located?

Pizzorno sits in the Canelón Chico region, just 20 kilometers north of Montevideo, in the Canelones department. For added convenience, you can arrange a transport service that will pick you up directly from your hotel. A sommelier will accompany you throughout the journey and introduce you to the Pizzorno universe even before you arrive at the estate.

Grape Varieties Grown at Pizzorno

The estate spans approximately 20 hectares of vineyards, planted on clay-loam and chalky soils. You'll discover vines thriving on gentle slopes and permeable terrain, ideal for thoughtful viticulture that respects the ecosystem. The Pizzorno family limits fertilizer use, manages water carefully, and performs meticulous pruning, treading, and thinning to harvest grapes of optimal quality.

Throughout your visit, you'll encounter a diverse range of grape varieties including Tannat, Uruguay's emblematic wine, alongside Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Malbec, Arinarnoa, Marselan, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Ugni Blanc, and Muscat of Hamburg.
